He holds a guard pose: his bare right arm comes straight out from the shoulder, and his fist grips the sword with the wrapped grip up and the blade pointing down past his hip. His head is level and turned slightly toward you, with three pairs of narrowed eyes, branching markings across the cheeks and brow, and a calm, closed mouth. A long, heavy mane of hair rises from a high knot at the crown, falls over both shoulders and sweeps down behind his back almost to the base, with one lock over the forehead. The kimono is sculpted with a hexagon lattice filled with a fine scale texture, one sleeve has slipped off the shoulder and trails out to the side as a long loose swath, and a broad sash is wrapped twice round the waist and tied at the front with a hanging tail.
