He balances on one foot on top of a splintered tree stump, his other knee hitched up high, playing a flute held sideways across his face. He has a carved wooden face with large round eyes, a short beaked snout with a rope tied across it, and a shaggy hat of overlapping straw tufts. He wears a ragged ruff, fringed gloves, a long tunic with a torn hem belted with a chain, patched trousers and pointed boots with strap wraps. Behind him a braided, thorny vine grows out of the grass and twists up to hold a giant heart-shaped mask with ten tapered spikes, two large ringed eyes, raised piping and wood grain over every surface; the back of the mask is an open, hollow cup.
